Every so often, we meet highly passionate students who continually strive to excel. We developed the AIT Creative Minds scholarship to recognise the hard work and dedication these students put in.

Meet the 2017 winners of the Creative Minds Scholarship.

SYDNEY: Robert Maravilla – Bachelor of Interactive Media (3D Design)

What are you studying at AIT?

I’m studying 3D Design and my degree is the Bachelor of Interactive Media.

How have you found your time at AIT whilst studying your degree?

Overall, my time at AIT has been greatly positive. I have grown so much from when I began to where I am today. I have learnt a lot from studying here and have gotten several opportunities that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. I have met amazing people – both friends and mentors – that I feel will stay with me forever.

Why did you decide to apply for the Creative Minds Scholarship?

I applied for the scholarship because I thought it would be a great opportunity to push myself and see if I was capable of achieving a short-term goal that I set for myself. When applying, I also made a commitment to myself to perform the best I could to achieve it.

What does it mean to you to have been selected to receive the scholarship?

Being chosen for the scholarship meant a lot for me because it was a goal I had set for myself not knowing whether I was capable of achieving it. Throughout the semester I always kept it in mind when working so I would push myself to improve each day. To have achieved a personal goal – no matter how small it is – is always quite a feat in my eyes.

What’s next for you, Robbie? Career wise, project wise, etc.

I have a few projects in mind and I’m currently working on some as well. My main focus right now is to improve my skills and knowledge so I become a much more flexible artist overall. I know my strengths and I also am aware of my weaknesses, so I will be focusing on improving those aspects.

MELBOURNE: Cindy Ng – Bachelor of IT (Mobile App Development)

Tell us about yourself – where are you from, what are you studying at AIT, your hobbies and interests, and what inspires you!

I’m born and raised in Sweden, but my parents’ backgrounds are Malaysian, Chinese and Vietnamese. I study Mobile Apps Development at AIT and this is my 4th semester. I’m a foodie so during my free time I usually go out to have dinner and spend time with my friends.

What do you feel is the most enjoyable thing about studying at AIT?

What I like the most is having discussions, learning from my classmates and also getting new knowledge about the IT field.

What does it mean to you to have been selected to receive the Scholarship?

I’m really happy that my hard work and contribution paid off. The scholarship is like an award for all the hard work Iā€™ve put in so far. It makes me want to continue to study hard and learn more.

Are you currently working on any projects?

I’ve got a project idea which will be useful for students but haven’t really started it yet, so don’t really want to reveal anything yet.
